The first race of the year is done! It was nice to reconnect with our racewalking (and non-racewalking too!)
The season started out with a bang for John Kittredge, who broke the M65 Canadian Record in a time of
7:55.17. Congratulations, John!

Just a note that there will be no women's race walk contested at the Hamilton Indoor Games this year. Its
unfortunate, but there just weren't enough women available to create a field.

The Ontario Racewalkers held their 2010 Annual General
Meeting and 2010 Athletes of the Year party last night.
There were many great conversations over a wonderful
meal prepared by our coach Stafford. Thank you Lily and
Stafford for opening up your home to us
Catherine McCormack and Jean Pierre Fortin
You both did some pretty great things in 2010 and should be extremely
proud of your accomplishments! We all are!

Huge congratulations to Ontario Racewalkers Alumni, Rachel Seaman
(nee Lavallée) on her new Canadian Record in the 20K! Her 1:34:22 PB
broke the old record held since August, 2000 by Janice McCaffrey
(1:34:50). Rachel is now just 1 minute off the Canadian Olympic standard.
Next, Rachel is headed to Europe for three weeks to train and do a few

Rachel does it again! Competing in a race in Hungary,
Rachel lowered the Canadian Record and is now 13
seconds off the World Championships A standard. Her
time of 1:33:43 is a 39 second PB too! Rachel is in the
orange singlet in the picture to the left.
This comes off a shocking disqualification in a race in
Czechoslovakia the weekend before.
Next up for Rachel is a race in Italy on May 1st. Go
Rachel! We're so proud of you!

Outdoor training for the Ontario Racewalkers is well underway! We all have different goals, but we're all out
there training hard.
A few of us made the trip to Ottawa last weekend for the "One Hour". As with most road trips, it had its "up
and downs" for some of our team! Overall though, I think most of us had an enjoyable weekend, and the
racing bug is back in full force! Check out the results here.

Congrats to Ontario Racewalker Kris Kozell for winning the age-graded Art Keay Memorial Racewalk
yesterday! The racers endured humid temperatures, to complete 5 or 10K distances. Congratulations
also to John Kittredge for breaking the Canadian Record in the M65 5,000m. Thanks to Lily and Stafford for
putting on another great Art Keay race. That was the 27th annual, if I'm not mistaken.

After a two hour delay, the 5,000m racewalk finally got underway at 7:45pm! Here are a couple of pictures,
and mini-videos from the race.

Well, several Ontario Racewalkers participated in the World Masters Athletics Championships in
Sacramento California. There was a 5K track walk, a 10K road walk and a 20K road walk. Check out all of
the Canadian walk results here.

We're sending a HUGE amount of Good Luck to Rachel Seaman, competing in Women's 20K walk at the
IAAF World Championships in Daegu, Korea. Rachel's race goes on August 31.
Also, check out this great picture of the huge field of walkers we had in the 5,000m at the 2011 Canadian
Masters Outdoor Championships on June 19. What a great looking bunch of walkers!

As the racing year comes to a close for most of us, we've got a lot of successes to celebrate! Most recently,
Edmonton, September 17, 2011:
20km: Ben Thorne - 1:24:12. Ben achieves the Olympic "B" standard at age 18.
Naumburg, Germany, September 24, 2011:
20km: Inaki Gomez - 1:22:06. Inaki achieves the Olympic "A" standard!!
20km: Evan Dunfee - 1:23:45. Evan achieves the Olympic "B" standard.
20km: Rachel Seaman - 1:33:33. Rachel misses the Olympic "A" standard by ONLY 3 seconds.
This sets up an exciting 2012 for Canadian racewalkers!
The Ontario Racewalkers have a lot of great successes this year to celebrate too. Although we're on our fall
break right now, I know most of us are probably itching to get right back out there!
