Lots of good food was consumed, and several athletes

We are so proud of Rachel Seaman, winner of the
Women's One Mile Walk at the Millrose Games last
night. She won in a time of 6:49.20.
Here is a brief article from universalsports.com on the
"Rachel Seaman, the Canadian race walk champion
and wife of U.S. national race walk champ Tim
Seaman, won the women's one-mile race in 6:49.20.
She bested defending champion and four-time U.S.
champ Teresa Vaill, who crossed second in 6:52.54.
Seaman said she had difficulty adjusting to the shorter
distance, which is rarely competed on the professional
"It's really hard doing a mile when you usually race
20K," she said. "I was planning on staying with whoever
was leading, then at 2½ laps to go, I made my move
and tried to get around and away and pushed to the

Wow, there was an exciting race today as part of the Ontario Masters Indoor Championships. The
battle between Ontario Racewalker Anne De Thy and London Pacer Sherry Watts went on for all 15
laps with Anne leading the entire way and beating Sherry by 1 second! It was a huge PB for Anne, and
a great race for all of us to watch! Congratulations to all of the competitors today.

With the closing of the 2010 World Masters Indoor Championships in Kamloops, comes the end of
the 2010 indoor racing season. It was a good season all around for all of the Ontario Racewalkers -
some new Canadian Records established, seasonal bests and personal bests made, and some
1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals achieved.
Well done everyone!

Well, the Ontario Racewalkers are busy training. We're preparing for the outdoor season, which
consists of longer distance races. John Kittredge competed in the Ottawa One Hour last weekend
(results to be posted soon), and Rachel Seaman continues to compete in various races in the U.S.
The latest was a 5K at the Penn Relays yesterday. She walked a 20 second PB for a 22:30.40.
Art Keay is getting close, so stay tuned for more information on that. Keep on walking!
June 2, 2010
Art Keay is complete for another year. There were quite a few PB's, and most people were happy
with their walk. A huge "THANK YOU" to our wonderful volunteers (lap counters/water table
people/sponge people/general "cheer'ers") and the judges, and of course a big thank you to Lily
and Stafford Whalen who put the whole race together.
Check out the results here.

Ontario Racewalker Lily Whalen is featured in the June 2010 issue of
"Zoomer" magazine. Follow this link to read the article.
Zoomer magazine is a Canada-wide publication - you can find copies of it at
your local bookstore. They claim to be a lifestyle magazine for people aged
45 and up -- Canadian Zoomers – "people who embrace life with experience
and confidence and who aren't afraid of change".
Lily is a great ambassador for not only racewalking, but also for masters
athletics, so it is very fitting and well-deserved that she is featured in Zoomer.

The Ontario Masters Outdoor Championships took place on
Sunday June 27, 2010 under muggy conditions. Jean Horne,
one of the newest members of our club, and June Marie Provost,
one of our most favourite fellow racewalkers, show us how its
done in this picture to the left.
John Kittredge and Jean Pierre Fortin had a good battle to the
finish in this race. John quietly pursued JP in the last 100m and
beat him by .13s! Check it out:
John Kittredge - 29:49.83
JP Fortin - 29:49.96
Meet records were posted by Jean and JP. Way to go everyone!

Some of the Ontario Racewalkers participated in
the Weinacker Cup this past weekend. This is a
competition that takes place yearly between
Michigan and Ontario. This year Ontario retained
the Cup! Way to go Team Ontario!
Congratulations to Rachel Seaman, the Women's 20K Canadian Champion! Rachel has won
the title for the past four years in a row. A second congratulations to Catherine McCormack who
competed in her first National Championship and walked a pretty big PB.
Catherine's story is an inspiring and impressive one. Check out this really great video, which
aired on CBC from coast-to-coast!
"Racewalker Catherine McCormack doesn't let multiple sclerosis slow her down"
A comment must also be made about Jean Pierre Fortin's race in the Open 10K. Going up
against the Canadian and U.S. Junior men, J.P. walked a new PB!
It was a good morning for racewalking - three races in a row! A special thanks to Anne and Garry
for helping out with water and sponges. It was hot out there, so we appreciated your effort. And a
huge thank you to Lily and Stafford for both helping put all three races on, as well as officiating for
all of them. The work you do for racewalking in Canada should not go unnoticed!
And so ends another great year for the Ontario Racewalkers. I'd like to share a quote from John
Kittredge, one of our athletes, summing up our year quite nicely:
"lots of races, medals, pb's and records; but more importantly commitment, focus, persistence, a
high level of participation and significant personal improvements and accomplishments by
EVERY, and I really mean EVERY, member of the team. It speaks to the coaching we get".
Good job to everyone: athletes, coaches, supporters, etc. We can really be proud of 2010.
We're currently recovering, doing easy workouts every other day, and will be starting back up in
October. Get in contact with us if you want to come out!
